Dosage

The dosage of Estradiol must be taken according to your doctor’s prescription. Make sure that you follow all the directions present on the prescription label and do not use this medicine in large amounts or for longer than advised.

Since this medicine may increase your chances of developing uterine cancer, in order to decrease the chances, your doctor may advise you to take it with progestin. Also, your doctor must check your progress regularly for three to six months in order to determine if you should continue this medicine.

Also, if you need to get a major surgery carried out or if you are going to be on bed rest for a long time, then you should stop the use of this medication for some time. Any physician or surgeon treating you must be aware of this medication.

If you are using Estradiol in the form of injection, then you should dispose of any syringes and needles in the right kind of container as per the state laws. Do not throw the used needles in the garbage.

Also, if you are using estradiol in the form of a spray, then you should avoid flame and fire until the spray has dried out. Do not apply sunscreen or any other moisturizing lotion over that area for at least an hour.

Side Effects

While using estradiol, you must avoid smoking. Smoking can increase the chances of having a stroke, blood clots, and even a heart attack. As per advise, stay away from grapefruit as this can interact with the drug and lead to unpleasant and undesirable side effects.

In case you miss the dose, you must take it as soon as you remember it, and if the time of your next dose is near, then avoid taking extra medicine in order to make up for the missed dosage. If you overdose on this drug, let your doctor know right away and visit an emergency center.

Precautions

You should avoid this medicine if you have liver disease, bleeding disorder, and undiagnosed vaginal bleeding. Also, if you have ever had cancer in your breasts, cervix, or vagina, heart attack, and blood clot, then you should stay away from this medication.

It’s advised for pregnant women not to use this medicine. Estradiol can increase the risk of developing uterus cancer, so if you see any unusual bleeding in your vagina, you should consult your doctor right away. This drug should not be used if you have dementia as well.

Make sure that you have mammograms and physical exams regularly and even self-examine your breast for lumps while using this medicine. Avoid using this medicine if there is a history of liver diseases and heart attacks in your family.
